Perforated Honeycomb Cube in Stainless Steel
Perforated surfaces are found throughout architecture from old lattice-works in the Middle East to modern buildings in the West. I thought it would be great to apply to smaller scale jewelry designs and came up with a series of jewelry items including this small cube.
The cube pendant is constructed out of bronze-infused Stainless Steel that is formed by an additive layer by layer process known as 3D Printing. The layering of the printing process gives the surface a texture that works for some items but for this cube I felt it should have a little bit more of a smoother texture. So I paritally sanded the surface which gives it a little more reflectivity in direct sunlight while still having some of the grain which gives it a very industrial look. Its hung from a 24" gunmetal chain. The cube itself measures 1/2 an inch.
