There is something intriguing about barcodes. As a graphic they are a simple (almost minimal) image consisting of thin black bars of varying thicknesses set against a contrasting white background. This creates an appealing graphic. At the same time the fact that they are so ubiquitous - that every item in our lives is tracked by a set of lines and numbers - gives them a symbolism that is a little frightening.
With the Barcode Cuff I drew on both of those aspects by creating a design that both celebrates the graphic quality of the barcode while also railing against what it represents. The numbers typically found at the bottom of barcodes are replaced by the statement "PRICELESS".
MATERIAL: Laser engraved/cut genuine cowhide leather in Cobalt Blue with a luxuriously soft suede on the back side. This leather is not stiff like the black barcode cuffs but drapes over your wrist.
SIZING*: The cuff has a gumetal extender chain and clasp in the back so the size is adjustable.
The best way to figure out your size is to get the circumference of your wrist and subtract about 1 inch (25mm) or more from that number. This will determine what length of the leather cuff will work best for you. [For example if you're wrist is 6 inches in circumference the 5 inch leather bracelet would work best.]
It can be made in the following sizes-
The blue leather band measures 5 inches (128mm), and the chain adds up to 3 inches (76mm).
The black leather band measures 6 inches (152mm), and the chain adds up to 3 inches (76mm).
The black leather band measures 7 inches (178mm), and the chain adds up to 3 inches (76mm).
Or you can order it in a custom size.
The shape of the leather band is larger towards the front and tapers towards the ends. At its tallest it is 1 1/4 inches (this is the "slim" version of my leather Barcode Cuff bracelet).
Each piece will be coated with a leather protectant.
